hi if you have time could you write a reaction for tokyo revengers mikey where his kid runs to him in the middle of a meeting and reader runs along to get his kid, and the toman members didnt know that mikey has a kid except for thr founding members + takemitchy
New Captain: Manjiro Sano x Fem!Reader
wc: 467
tw: fluff
masterlist
"The new captain of the Third Division is--"
"Baaaa-baaaaa!"
Everyone stops to watch the little girl running down the path toward Mikey, her little blonde braids flapping in the wind as she dashes toward him, arms open.
"Emmy, come back here!"
All the men - except the founders and little ol' Takemitchy - stiffen, watching you chase after the girl with a face full of fear. Emmy makes it up to Mikey faster than you can catch her, and he stoops to pick her up without her having to ask, cradling her at his side with the same blank look she wears as you approach.
"I'm so sorry," you huff, but Mikey shakes his head, placing a small kiss on his daughter's cheek and holding you close by your waist. "She got out of the car to get her toy, heard your voice, then she took off and I--"
"Hey," Mikey whispers in your ear. "It's alright. I'm glad you're here."
He hefts Emmy a little higher, and her fingers clutch onto his hair tightly as Mikey continues.
"The new captain of the Third Division is--"
"Me!" Emmy shouts.
"No, no, no," Mikey tuts softly, pressing a finger to his daughter's lips. The other members all try to stifle a laugh at the overzealous toddler's antics but fail miserably when Draken bends over to laugh. "Not yet, Emmy."
"But when? You said I was the best fighter in all of Tokyo!" Emmy tries to demonstrate her prowess with a chop to the back of Mikey's head, followed by a high-pitched hi-ya!
"Hey, hey," you murmur, grabbing the little girl from Mikey's arms. "When all of these big men are old and ready to retire, then you can take over Tokyo." The offering seems to be enough to silence the girl, and Mikey clears his throat, pushing his hair back from his forehead.
The amused members below straighten up when Mikey looks down at them again, prepared to hear the new selection for the Third Division Captain.
"The new captain of the Third Division is..."
____________________
BONUS:
"Run five laps!"
"Yes, boss!"
Draken bows low to the girl sitting at the top of the steps, her fingers holding onto a small toy.
"Boss! The ice cream you wanted is on the way!" A smile paints Emmy's lips as she mimicks her father's attitude with his second-in-command.
"Thank you, Ken-chin. You've earned a short break."
"Thank you, boss!"
As Draken jogs off to join the others running "five laps", you lean over to Mikey and giggle.
"I think she'd make a great Commander of Toman."
Mikey huffs a laugh, twirling the blonde strands of his daughter's hair between his fingers before lacing a hair elastic around the braid.
"She already is the Commander of Toman. I'm simply her hairdresser."

A Toasty Night
Jimin x reader not rly a pairing sorry
genre modern western, just fluff, language, kind of funny ??, slight sad bits but hey there’s marshmallows to toast :p dw
1.2k words
Your ears twitch, that peculiar twitch you always get. Whenever someone was too close to the barn for some reason.
You stop carving the small piece of wood you were working on and looking out your window towards the farmland and the empty acres of land you own.
Smoke rises from the trees, and you stand up when you hear a laugh. A giggle, a crack, more laughter.
You hear the sheep in the barn make sounds, uncomfortable.
Someone isn’t where they are supposed to be.
Seven boys chuckle as one of them blows on their burnt marshmallows, “Ah, perfect.”
“Yes perfection is perfect, ain’t it?” giggles one of the youngest ones, and they chew on it.
The sky had changed into the most gorgeous sunset, and it was very visible from the small clearing that was in front of the lush forest. With some scrap wood they were able to set camp and lay down their bags, however that meant some of the boys had to snuggle up later if they were to have a good and warm night’s slumber. Because of the clearing, the sunset illuminated the pretty white country house to the north, and the plain red barnhouse to the south with a few horse stables.
The boys had just gotten out of school, meaning they were all graduating college next year. An exciting summer coming, for most, except for the one who just spoke. He just wasn’t quite ready to say goodbye. That’s why he quickly organized this.
He had to call up Namjoon, then Seokjin, he had to bring his roommate, who was too busy dating.
The man was just exhausted, but he couldn’t let everyone break apart.
No way are they going to give up like this.
Not now.
No.
“Can you hear that?” One of them says softly. The younger man turns, pouting, “Hobi I don’t know—,”
“BAAAAA” the man laughs, and the eldest one shrieks, dropping his sweet treat in the fire, “GODDAMNIT I HATE YOU HOSEOK!!”
They all laugh at his misfortune as the older man points at him, “Jimin stop it! You too Namjoon! Pick it up!”
“He’ll burn himself trying!” Giggles the youngest, and Jimin leans back and smiles as he counts his friends.
Six, a perfect number, truly, and—
“Wait. Where’s Yoongi?” He suddenly asks, standing up as his mouth is full of gooey marshmallow.
“Uh, I dunno? He probably—,” Namjoon responds, poking Seokjin’s flaming treat with his stick.
“Where is Yoongi? Dude this land isn’t mine, we’re—,”
There’s a scream.
Jimin gets up, the curling scream making him pale, as his friend is pulled into their clearing. Yoongi is bound, and he falls on his knees, his fly still open as he loudly curses in Korean. Trailing behind Yoongi is the rope, followed by the snap of sticks, hooves beating the ground and grumbling. “What the fuck are y’all doin’ on my property?”
Jimin tries to free his friend, but instead he looks up at a large and manly horse, ridden by you, your lasso around his best friend. He gulps and he stands back up, backing away.
You survey them, looking at their faces as you pull their friend and click your tongue, “Well ain’t you gonna answer?”
“F-fuck! Uh, w-we didn’t mean to step on your l-land!” Jimin finally spits out.
Seokjin cries, putting his hands in the air for mercy, “Y-yeah! Just calm down!”
You take down your hair, fanning yourself. After tightening the grip on the lasso, it falls apart, “I know enough about men to stay clear of ‘em. Get off my property.”
“Y-yes! Sorry!” Says Taehyung, and he packs up his stuff.
Jimin pulls Yoongi back to his group and goes to you, even as your horse exhales and steps back, “W-Wait! Uh, would you like to join us?”
You scowl at the man, and softly scoff as you lean over on your pinto, stroking his hair. “Dal, sniff ‘em.” Your black and white pinto, Dalmatian, walks forward and sniffs the boys. Hoseok jumps in fright and hides behind Seokjin as he screams in fright, “BACK AWAY GET BACK- G-GOOD HORSEY!”
You yawn in boredom as you eye at the man who jumped. You kindly and gently tug Dalmatian back, petting his mane, “Good boy, stay by Mamie’s tree, alright?” You hop down, and coil your lasso. “I just wanna see what exactly y’all are doin’.”
Jimin brings up a bag of marshmallows, about the size of his entire torso, “Marshmallow toasting! We were going to have a sleepover!”
“Mm,” you say softly, poking the fire before getting out a small flask, the wood newly carved with the small emblem of your family name. You lean over, pouring some alcohol on the fire with a hum.
“You drink?” Taehyung mutters softly, eyeing how you trace a circle over the flame, letting the breeze burn the fire. When the fire reacts, a small burst of flame appears and he sits down slowly.
“No.” You close the small flask back up and look up, “You ain’t gonna introduce yourselves?”
One by one the boys go. The one with dark spectacles as Seokjin, the one you lassoed, a soft spoken man named Min Yoongi, the more calmer and to be frank men is Namjoon with tiny and shy dimples. The one that annoyed you was Hoseok; he even offered a hug. You reluctantly take it and look over as Jimin smiles, “And I’m Park Jimin, those are my friends Kim Taehyung and Jeonggukkie. He’s the baby~,”
You survey them again, taking in their personalities and you get up, nodding, “Alright, have your fun. I want y’all gone by the time the sun’s in the middle of the sky, tomorrow.”
“Uh, do you mean noon?” Jungkook asks, sipping on a small drink written in a foreign language.
“I mean if y’all don’t your asses out here I’ll beat them to a pulp. Or, probably have my bull do that.”
There’s a loud, synchronized gulp and you scoff, whistling as Dalmation pulls away from the tree and to you.
“S-she wasn’t even tied up?” Seokjin cries, as Namjoon looks down at his elder, testily.
“He, actually.” You respond, hoisting yourself over on the horse. Jimin frowns and leans in, “Y-you don’t want to stay for longer? We can leave whenever you like, but,” he looks back to his friends, who nod, “We’re happy to have someone else with us. Come on,”
You smile softly, looking down and coiling your lasso tightly, feeling the rough material on your calloused fingertips, “What. . . do I get in return?”
“Marshmallows! Some nice jokes. You don’t have to be alone for the night.” Namjoon pipes up as Jimin lends his hand to you, bowing softly. You look up and he smiles sweetly, “It’ll be fun.”
You purse your lips, looking away from the handsome man’s young face. You move Dalmatian back to your country house, letting the boy’s faces fall sadly turning to each other and sighing.
When you don’t hear crunching behind you, you whip out your lasso with a snap, and laugh at their puzzled and fearful faces, “Y’all better get your asses out here now if you want those marshmallows,” you smirk widely, holding up the rest of the big bag that was hidden in Dallie’s saddle as the other boys laugh, and you shoot Jimin a wink.

Writer Tag
Baaaaa I got tagged by the fantastic and lovely @the-sloth-woman uwu ♡ Thank chu so much~ Enjoy the mess :3
Author Name: Only Shattered-Heathens on tumblr, but I use Baa-sama because it's easier to recognize.
Fandoms you write for: Ꮚ°ꈊ°;Ꮚ Mostly for Diabolik Lovers on this blog, but I do write for BNHA and a few others. I don't really share these at all. I also love writing aus and have a lot of w.i.p stories. L i k e a lot.
Where you post: Mostly tumblr, but I also tend to stress over whether or not to post them. Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't, mainly because I'm not entirely confident in my writing. Like it can probably sound and look good to someone else, but not to me.
Most popular one-shot: Ꮚ°ꈊ°;Ꮚ Uhm well....Theres Blue Hands , A Symphony of Thievery, Dust, and an Accordion, Winter’s Child, and a shattered-memories post. Since those give you an insight about Maxine's childhood. Hoo boy, I have never felt so uncomfortable when I have to write about her past or any of my ocs pasts in general, because when I do; I get into their "character" and mindset. To show the reader why my ocs do the things they do and sometimes I can be ambiguous about their intentions too :) Why? Well I love leaving things open ended, it's just give you more to think about.
Most popular multi-chap: Ꮚ°ꈊ°;Ꮚ I don't really have one since I'm fucking terrible with writing mult-chaps.
Story you were most nervous to post: OOF I mean to be honest, I'm always nervous about posting stories lmao though Blue Blood, Bleu Perfume, and Cat Man are definitely the top 3 that made me absolutely nervous. Blue Blood is an au of an idea of the pairing Ruki and Maxine because yes I was going to pair her up with him, I never did though since they're a little too similar (both of them are emotionally detached), however I think I might post more aus in the future!
Bleu Perfume is another nervous jitters fest because this is involves two important people from Maxine's life: her parents. They're both flawed individuals and both of their actions shaped their daughter into who she is. The problems I had with this one was the whole idea of how Maximilian isn't human anymore, no he's not a vampire, and try to show much of an impact Maximilian had on Cheryl. I hope I did well in doing that too. I plan on expanding them more, once I write some things out. So until then, they'll be put on hold for a bit.
Finally Cat Man, a story about Volker and his first cat named Hans. The amount of cheese in this is enough to make you constipated. I've written headcanons about Volker having pets and loves animals, I figured why not write about his first cat? While yes, he's a bitter and salty man, Volker in general is always exhausting to write, I kind of wantes to show that despite his bitterness there is a side of him thats reserved for very few to see. His pets are the only ones who actually see this of him behind closed doors (with anyone else he's fucking grumpy as all hell about it).
How you pick your titles: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ They come to me after listening to Queen and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure music, or after making a sacrifice to the Writing Gods. Sometimes I just pick two words that look fancy and boom, there's a title.
Do you outline? What outline...? *shoves my 10 notebooks and 6 documents of outlines away into the Pits* Lol jk jk, I do outline but holy fuck they're so damn messy and I even forget what the fuck I wrote (yay for messy handwriting). Its a chaotic mess, which is the only way I can function to write.
Complete stories:*blinks slowly*...I honestly don't know since I never bothered to keep track of them.
In progress: So many background stories...so many background stories...OC pasts and many more. A whole fucking drabble series for a BNHA canon character and my oc-I still fucking cringe everytime I go work on it.
Coming soon: Yui and Maxine-somehow-manage to convince Xena to allow them to throw a Halloween party at the Zolnerowich mansion.
Prompts: Do I use prompts? Yes and no, its only to help me brainstorm some ideas. Though if the prompt is good and I'm in the groove, the writing flows easily.
Upcoming story you are most excited for: ಡᗜಡ Lmao whichever one gets done first!
I tag anyone who's eating a burger to do this!

(Free! Scenario) Spending The Night Together
A/N: Got a request or idea? Leave it below in the comments
========================================================
Haru
"HARU!" I hear Y/N yell as she jumps through the door and onto me. "Hey Y/N." I say with a small smile as she hugs me tightly. "Thank you for inviting me around!" She says with closed eyes and a smile. "No problem. Did you bring your pyjamas?" I ask and she nods before holding up her bag and showing me. "Good. Have you had dinner yet?" I ask and she follows me into the living room. "No, I wanted to try your cooking Haru-chan!" She says as she sits on the floor in front of the table. Normally I'd tell people not to put -chan after my name, but I guess I can make an exception just this once. "Alright, put your stuff upstairs in my room and I'll get dinner served up." I say and she nods with a giggle before running upstairs. I chuckle and plate up the mackerel before putting them on the table and waiting for her.
Your POV
I smirk as I see him sitting down, facing away from me. No better time than the present. I think as I sneak up behind him then jump on his back. "WHAT THE-" "Surprise!" I yell happily with a giggle and he takes in a deep breath. "Don't scare me like that Y/N." He says and I laugh. "Aw, did my wittle baby get scawed?" I ask with a pout and he looks away. "N...not really." He says with a small blush, causing me to giggle. "You got in your pyjamas?" He asks and I nod. "Of course! It's comfy in these." He shrugs as I show him my bed socks. "Okay! Let's eat!" I say as I jump off of his back and run to my side of the table. I sit down and happily begin eating after saying 'Itadakimasu!'
Haru's POV
After we had finished eating and I had cleaned the dishes, Y/N suggests we watch a movie. "You seem to be enjoying yourself." I say as she sits with her feet up on the couch and cuddled under my arm. "I am. It's nice sitting with you, just relaxing." She says and I smile. "That's good." I say before kissing the top of her head and leaning my head on hers. "You've also calmed down a fair bit." I mention and she smiles. "Your hugs are nice and warm. They make me sleepy." She says as the credits begin. "Then how about we go to bed? I've got a futon if you want to sleep on that." She shakes her head and hugs me. "I wanna sleep with you!" She says and I help her to stand up. "Alright, come on." I say as I walk her to my room and sit her down on my bed. "Hug me Haru! I'm cold." She says and I smile. "Can I get in my pyjama pants first?" I ask and she shakes her head with a pout. "NO! Hug me! Pwease?" She asks teasingly and I ruffle her hair. "Too bad, I'm getting dressed first. I'll be back and hug you then, alright?" I ask and she huffs. "Fine." She agrees before sitting down on the bed.
I walk into the bathroom, take my shirt off and get into pyjama pants before walking back out to Y/N. I scoff as I see her pouting face and I sit down next to her. "Are you done now?" She asks and I nod before she hugs me tightly. "Let's sleep already...I cold and tired and I want to sleep next to you." She says with a small blush and I chuckle. "Alright, let's sleep then." I say as I lie down against the wall side of the bed and pull her under the covers with me. "Mmm, nice and warm." She mumbles as she gets comfy and closes her eyes. "Goodnight Y/N." I say as she falls asleep and I wrap my arms around her protectively. "Goodnight."
Makoto
"Hi Mako!" I say happily as he opens the door to his house. "Oh, Y/N. I didn't expect you here so early." He says and I laugh. "Why wouldn't I be early for a sleepover at my smexy boyfriend's place?" I ask with a giggle as I jump into a hug. He catches me and sighs, hugging back. "Are you hungry? My mother is cooking dinner for the family right now." He asks and I think for a bit. "I don't want to intrude..." "Oh no, it's okay. My family is very happy to welcome you and my mother always cooks too much anyway." He chuckles and I smile. "Okay! Where can I put my things?" I ask and he takes my overnight bag from my hands. "You go sit down and I'll take this up to my room." I nod and walk into the kitchen, getting greeted by the whole family. "Hello Y/N. It's so nice to have you stay the night." Mrs Tachibana says and I smile. "I hope I'm not intruding." I say as I sit down and she serves up dinner. "Oh no, not at all. My Makoto has been excited for weeks about this. It makes him happy so it makes us happy." She says with a smile. "M...mum!" I hear Makoto say from the doorway. "It's alright Mako. I was just as excited to come here." I say with a polite smile. "She's a keep Makoto. I better get some grandchildren." His mother says and we both blush. "MUM!"
Time Skip
"I...I'm sorry about my mother Y/N-chan." Makoto says as we enter his room. "It's alright. My mother's the same." I say with a giggle and he laughs as well. "It's so nice to be here. Thank you for inviting me." I say with a smile as I hug him and rest my head on his chest. "ONEE-SAN!" "ONEE-CHAN!" I hear two voices yell as the door was burst open. "Hey, Ren. Hey, Ran." I say as I crouch down to hug them. "Onee-san! Read us a bedtime story, please?" The little boy asks and I look back to Makoto with a pleading smile. He sighs and unfolds his arms. "Alright. But only one!" He says and they laugh before running off to their room. "Don't worry. It won't take long." I say as I kiss his cheek. "Okay..." He mumbles, taking my hand and walking me into the twin's room.
Time Skip
I yawn and crash against my boyfriend's shoulder, causing him to chuckle. "Tired?" He asks quietly, as we had only just gotten the twins off to sleep. I nod and he grabs my hand, standing me up and going back to his room with me. "Let's sleep then." He says and I get into my pyjamas as he waits outside the room. "I'm done." I say before falling face first onto the bed. I hear him laugh at my position as he enters the room. "Just stay like that for a second. I'm gonna get in my pyjamas and something tells me that you're not gonna move." He says and I groan. "Something told you right." I say and after a few seconds, the bed dips and I was rolled over. "Done." He says simply before turning off the light and hugging me softly as I lay against his chest. "Sweet dreams, Y/N" He says quietly before kissing my forehead and resting his chin on my head. "Night. Mako." I say sleepily.
Nagisa
I giggle as Nagisa hugs me tightly as I place my things in his room, getting prepared to stay the night. "What? You wanna cuddle?" I ask and he nods sleepily. "Well, we've already had dinner, so I don't see why we can't go to bed now." I say and he shakes his head. "No. I wanna stay up all night and enjoy every second with you! With snacks and games and kisses and-" I quickly cut him off with a kiss. "Okay, okay." I chuckle. "What do you wanna do first, you adorable little penguin you?" I ask, kissing his cheek softly. "Hmm, games!" He says walking me to the console. "You pick one and I'll get some sweets and drinks!" He says and I giggle. "Don't you have a bedtime?" I tease and he turns bright red. "Y...yeah...but my mum said I could stay up late since you're here and it's the weekend tomorrow!" He says happily and I smile. "Alright, just don't get a sugar high." I joke as he runs off. "I won't promise anything!" He yells back and I laugh, deciding to get into my pyjamas first. "Hmm, what game should we play?" I hum to myself as I look for a game.
"Y/N! I'm baaaaa.....ck." He slows his speech as I turn around. "What?" I ask. "Uh....n...nothing! Did you pick a game?" He asks nervously, trying to change the subject. "No, I was just looking at them. Wanna help me choose?" I ask and he nods. "How about this one?" I ask, pointing to a game as we kneel in front of the cabinet. "Nah, I've beaten that one way too many times." He says. I continue looking before sighing. "Nagisa, I know you're looking at me." I say, keeping my eyes on the games. "S...sorry, Y/N-chan...it’s just...you're wear something that.....it's kinda revealing and...shows everything off?" He asks shyly and I laugh. "It's hot weather okay? If that's what you've been worried about I can change my pyja-" "NO!" He says quickly, catching both of us off guard. "Uh...wh...what I mean was, it'd be bad if you had to sleep in pyjamas that were meant for winter, so....j...just stay in those." He says and I smile before kissing his cheek. "Okay. Just try not to perv too much." I joke and he laughs.
I gasp and grab his arm quickly, looking at him like a kid in a candy store. "We could build a pillow fort and sleep in that! It'll be nice and warm, and we could watch movies and eat and it'll be really romantic and we can hug and-" He shuts me up with a kiss and then rushes to his bed. "Well? Let's get this thing built and get in!" He says happily and we begin making the pillow fort.
Time Skip
"God, that was a lot more tiring than the movies let on." I say as I wipe some sweat from my forehead. "Yeah, but now we have a sweet fortress to sleep in!" I laugh and nod. "It was totally worth it!" I say as we get in our fort. "Mm, nice and cozy." I say as I cuddle up next to my boyfriend. "I guess you're too tired for a movie then." He says before giggling as I nod. "I'll put the drinks and sweets back and we can't get to bed." He says, carefully getting out and taking the things back. "Nagisaaaaaa!" I groan as he walks through the door. "Yes?" He asks and I hold my arms out. "Huggies..." I mumble and he laughs before turning off the light, hugging me tightly and pulling the duvet over us as we lay on the futon, which we used as padding for the fort. "Goodnight Y/N-chan." He whispers peacefully as he pulls my head to his chest. "Goodnight." I say with a smile as we lay there hugging each other to sleep.
Rei
"Reichii!" I groan as he began studying after dinner. "Yes Y/N?" He asks nonchalantly. I pout and roll around on his bed. "Let's cuddle Reichii!" I groan and he looks at me, blinks a few times then just turns back to his studying?! "You were reading AND studying before dinner! Can't we just cuddle and sleep?" I ask and he sighs, closing his book. He looks over to my sad pouty face. "Do you really want to cuddle that badly?" He asks and I nod my head, puffing out my cheeks and burrowing my head into the covers. "Alright." He says with a chuckle before standing up and laying down next to me, theeeeeeen jumping back up again. "Why are you in your underwear?!" I tilt my head in confusion. "This is what I always sleep in." He sighs and puts his glasses back on before rummaging through a drawer. "Here. They might be a bit big, but if you just wear what you're wearing now you'll get a cold." He says, handing me some pyjamas and a pair of socks. "Thanks, Reichii!" I say happily before putting them on over my underwear. "They're nice and warm!" I say happily, hugging my body. "Of course they are. I only choose the best, most efficient and most beautiful clothing, even for sleeping." He says, pushing his glasses up. "I know, now CUDDLES!" I say happily, holding my arms up to hug him and he chuckles. He rolls his eyes before getting into bed with me and hugging me gently. "Goodnight." He says and I wish him a good night as well.
Time Skip
"Ngh...Rei?" I ask as I sit up in bed a rub my eyes. I feel a sweat drop down the side of my forehead as I see he was as stiff as a plank, as far away as he could get from me. "You really do hate cuddles huh?" I say to myself before curling up next to him and laying my head on his chest. I smile as I hear his steady breathing and soothing heartbeat. He moves his hand to the back of my head as he sleeps and turns his head towards me. "I love you Y/N...." He says in his sleep, making me giggle. I lean up softly and kiss his cheek. "I love you too, Reichii." I say before closing my eyes again and falling asleep.
Rin
"Hot." I hear Rin say simply as I get out of the bathroom, where I was getting into my pyjamas. "Excuse me?" I ask and he smirks. "What? I can't call my own girlfriend hot?" He asks as he wraps his arms around my waist and pulls me closer. "You can, but I don't think you were calling me that. i think you were calling my 'friends' that." I say as I realise he was staring at my chest. "Well, that's part of you isn't it?" He asks and I scoff before hitting him over the head playfully. "You idiot." I say as I walk over to his bed and sit down. He sits in front of me on the ground, causing me to raise an eyebrow. "Umm-" Suddenly he gets into a praying position. "Oh, God of yoga pants. I will devote my life to you if you keep my sexy girlfriend in them, continuing to show off her sweet a-" "HEY HEY HEY!" I growl and he chuckles cheekily. "Baka..." I say with a smile and he gets up, sitting next to me. "Sorry." He says before kissing my forehead."It's alright, I just get a little shy when you say things like that. I don't NOT like it but...it's kinda embarrassing." I admit and he chuckles. "Don't be embarrassed. You deserve every compliment I give you. Especially the ones about your body." He says as he pinches my cheeks. I giggle a little a kiss his cheek.
"How about we get some sleep?" I ask, crawling to the other side of the bed that was against the wall. I yelp as I feel him cop a feel on my butt. "HEY! NO COPING A FEEL!" I say and he laughs, putting his up in defence as I hit him. "Sorry, sorry, sorry! I couldn't help myself." He says before grabbing me a kissing me softly. "You don't play fair." I say and he asks what I meant. "How am I meant to be angry when you're so nice?" I ask, cuddling him and burrowing my face in his chest. "I'm just irresistible." He jokes and kisses my cheek. "Let's sleep now...no touching!" I say quickly and he laughs. "I know, I know. I won't touch you." He says and I close my eyes. "Night Y/N." He says "Night Rin."

Adding your OC’s to the Mc AU
Heyo! So recently we’ve been getting a lot of questions about the McAU specifically about adding your own OC’s so I’m here to clear that question up.
Yes! you may make a design for the AU! we don't mind at all! if anything it would make me incredibly happy the see that this silly idea I and my friend got at 2am turned into something that people want to be a part of.
though I can not guarantee that your design will come up in a comic since it really depends on the personality, design, and if it fits in the comic, you can still add your own characters and come up with a design for your OC.
They may also work at McDonald's or the big bad leading competitor BUM BAM BAAAAA Wendy’s!
If you make a design for your character specifically aimed towards this AU feel free to submit it, we would love to see the creative designs others come up with! as well as possibly feature them in a few comics here and there.
#i cant believe people actually want their OC's in the AU#Would it be weird to say im honored#McDonalds is the place to rock#I guess Wendy's to#Whatever floats your boat#Naj#What has my life come to

MONTH OF January
Monthly Snapshot
At last! For the past six months, you may have struggled to shine, and at moments felt outright invisible. That’s all changing as January opens and the hangover of #canceled holidays fades into the rearview. Ready for your cosmic coming out party? The first month of 2021 will happily host it!
On January 6, energizer Mars blasts into your sign after six interminable months stuck in “sleep” mode, and it’s game on. Then electrifying Uranus rouses from a five-month retrograde in Taurus mid-month, and you’ll be an unstoppable force. Yes, Bull, you’re baaaaa-aaaack.
But you won’t just be stampeding at the first metaphorical matador’s cape. Your passionate awakening will be anchored by the heavy-hitting presence of lucky Jupiter and master builder Saturn, which recently relocated to Aquarius and your tenth house of career, achievement and public acclaim. Not only will you have innovative ideas to share, but you’ll also start getting the recognition you deserve. It’s about damn time!
Just get plans underway before Mercury turns retrograde from January 30 to February 20. As the cosmic communicator backspins through Aquarius and your professional zone, you could experience a few slowdowns or setbacks. But with the right amount of advance planning, you’ll be buffered against the mischief maker’s mayhem. Back up your data and devices and make sure everyone’s clear on their marching orders as soon as possible.
Week 1: January 1-10
Finally, your time to shine
Wake-up call! This Wednesday, January 6, is the day you didn’t know that you’ve been waiting for. But it is, Taurus, because your focus, confidence and energy are about to return with a vengeance. Since June 27, 2020, motivator Mars has been in Aries, slogging through your twelfth house of rest, sacrifice and illusions for an extended stay—FOUR times longer than its usual visit!
During this surreal time, you may have become more spiritual, vulnerable or deeply in tune with your emotions. But you also could have felt confused and adrift, as though nothing you attempted quite came together. There was plenty of magic and divine serendipity—which Taurus folk don’t always let themselves dabble in. But in the mundane day-to-day realm, it might have been hard to find your footing. As a stability-seeking sign, you could emerge from this cycle feeling pretty disoriented. But you may also have met a soulmate, grown more emotionally in tune with yourself or discovered how to consciously root into a state of divine grace and acceptance. There are all things that will carry you through any future rough patches!
Your surreal haze gives way to inspired action this week when Mars blazes into Taurus, activating your confidence, charisma and clarity. Mars is here until March 3, a once-every-two-years visit. All that feisty Mars energy will have you raring to go, and its methodical Taurean flow will suit your style of getting things done one item at a time, AND to your exacting standards. You’ll start to feel like your old self again—only better. Thanks to your long twelfth-house “meditation retreat,” you’ll approach your goals with more wisdom and depth, a silver lining that will pay dividends over the long haul.
With all the attention Mars could bring, you’re ready for a style refresh. A new look (or even just a hair, makeup and wardrobe mini overhaul) will help you feel sharp again, inside and out. Any transformations you undertake are sure to enhance your confident glow. And keep up the good work with social distancing for just a bit longer—all of your persistence will pay off.
Week 2: January 11-17
Should you stay or should you go?
Is it time for a bold coming-out party—or should you keep some plans under wraps? The answer is “both” this week as go-getter Mars and disruptor Uranus both make waves in Taurus while tangoing with the other planets.
After feeling suppressed and subdued for the last six months, you’re eager to shout your message from the rooftops. Mars is finally in your sign, and you’ve got something to SAY. But not so fast, Bull. On Wednesday, Januaclass=”body-el-link standard-body-el-link” ry 13, rash Mars will lock into a tense square with tight-lipped Saturn in Aquarius and your conservative, career-driven tenth house.
There will certainly be occasions to speak up boldly, but you’ll need to do so tactfully and tactically. Aside from “just wanting to be heard,” how can you position yourself as a trailblazing leader rather than a hotheaded disruptor? Strike the right balance and you could earn the respect and allegiance of key power players. You’ll want them in your corner this year, Bull! You don’t have to suppress your truth to earn their trust…but know that this is a process, so play the long game.
Besides, on Thursday, January 14, pioneering Uranus will end a five-month retrograde backspin in YOUR sign that began on August 15. As the planet of radical change turns direct (forward) in Taurus, some of your passion projects or cherished personal goals gain momentum…or head in a thrilling new direction. Have you been pondering a new look or waiting to debut a style update? Uranus direct gives the all-clear for you to start turning some heads.
Fun fact: For the next two weeks, there will be ZERO retrograde planets, a great time to make decisive moves. Do it quick, before Mercury turns retrograde on January 30 in your career house. Thursday is also ideal to “go big or go home” because the bold Sun will conjunct transformational Pluto in Capricorn and your visionary ninth house. Swing far out of your comfort zone, Taurus, and try something wildly new and different.
The weekend could bring some bumpy moments as you break out of that shell. On Sunday, January 17, expansive Jupiter and disruptor Uranus lock into a tough square, which only happens every seven years. When these freedom-seeking planets connect, the urge to liberate yourself from any limitations becomes impossible to ignore. But since they’re at odds with each other, you could be pulled between dueling desires to blaze your own trail and move up the career ladder. Jupiter in Aquarius and your career house pushes for professional expansion while Uranus in Taurus prompts you to put your own dreams first. You may need to do a bit of both!
The last Jupiter-Uranus square was in 2014, so look back to that time for any major plot twists. This time around, Jupiter and Uranus are in different signs and parts of your chart. But once again, you’ll feel the urge to break out of anything confining, whether it’s your career path, an image you present to the world or your life direction.
Week 3: January 18-24
Raring to go
Get those ambitious plans ready! Aquarius season begins this week as the Sun joins Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn in the Water Bearer’s domain on Tuesday, January 19, staying until February 18. Aquarius rules your tenth house of career and success, and you’re more than ready to tackle some lofty goals, especially after a long, dragged-out holding pattern for the second half of last year.
You’ll be fired up to make radical changes, possibly a complete pivot, especially on Wednesday, January 20. That day, go-getter Mars and pioneering Uranus will unite in Taurus, awakening your inner trailblazer. Do you have an innovative idea, perhaps one that involves cutting-edge technology? Hire that app developer or start scouting Fiverr wizards who can help you make it a reality. You might also have a vision for how the world can be better and more equitable. Don’t hold back—this outspoken starmap urges you to take a chance and speak up!
Warning: With these two unpredictable planets melding their energies, you could be a bit volatile, especially if someone challenges your vision. You’re eager to move things forward, but this rash energy could tempt you to force your hand. Pro tip: Remain open to feedback instead of adopting a “my way or the highway” attitude. Even if you’re convinced that your approach is best, steamrolling others will only alienate crucial supporters instead of turning them into allies. Keep your ego and temper in check today.
On Saturday, January 23, Mars will lock into a heated square with expansive Jupiter in your career sector. More impulsive and temperamental behavior could be triggered by this week’s second Mars aspect. While it’s great to break out of any limiting beliefs, watch that you don’t shoot yourself in the foot when doing so. Professional pressures could compete with your desire to launch a solo venture or do things your way. Should you play by the rules or flagrantly break them? This Mars-Jupiter square demands that you stick to the plan, at least to some extent, before throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
Also on Saturday, the ego-driven Sun gets put in check by mature Saturn (the only adult in the cosmic room today, it seems) as the two make their once-a-year meetup. While this is normally a sobering and even pessimistic day, the Sun-Saturn conjunction provides the pause that could save you from self-sabotage. Step back and take a hard look at your long-term goals rather than just the immediate impact. Where would you like to be a year or two from now? Taking a little time to reflect on that could pay dividends.
Week 4: January 25-31
A boost in the middle
Ups and downs: incoming! The last week of January is bookended by challenging days—with a huge positive boost in the middle. On Tuesday, January 26, the Sun in visionary Aquarius and your tenth house of reputation squares off against troublemaker Uranus in stubborn Taurus and your first house of personal identity. Your desire for stability may be disrupted by parts of your life that are in flux—or your own shaky mood.
If a tempting offer comes your way today, you’ll face a tough decision: Which path forward is best? Work hard to hold your temper if the pressure feels extreme. Take a deep breath and ask yourself what’s most important: the way you’re seen by others or the way you feel inside?
Things heat up in a wonderful way on Thursday, January 28. Considered the “luckiest day of the year” by many astrologers (and recently dubbed the Day of Miracles) this annual conjunction of the Sun and expansive Jupiter will shine a spotlight on your work-life balance, with abundant energy ruling the day on both fronts.
Adding to the day’s fire is a full moon in gregarious Leo and your fourth house of home and family. Is a possible move or some other reshuffling of your living situation on the horizon? This could be a banner day for career and achievements, but it could be hard to find time to indulge in the Leo full moon’s pampering perks. Perhaps a toast with your inner circle is in order?
You’ll want to polish up your public persona/front-facing materials (headshots, website, etc.) earlierclass=”body-el-link standard-body-el-link” this week because on Saturday, January 30, communicator Mercury turns retrograde (https://astrostyle.com/mercury-retrograde) in Aquarius and your tenth house of professional endeavors. This backspin will persist until February 20, so don’t be surprised if a job offer is delayed or presents some plot twists.
Read the fine print and don’t sign on the dotted line just now if possible. Be careful about clashes with clients and authority figures. Any disagreements could be simple crossed wires, but if things get too overblown, you could find yourself stuck making amends or rebuilding a burnt bridge. Hold off on any big announcements and hunker down to work behind the scenes. You can unveil your big plans and projects in late February under more favorable skies.
LOVE & ROMANCE:
At last! Taurus, you could NOT be more ready to put 2020 behind you when it comes to love. Not that it’s been all bad, but you’ve definitely faced some cosmic struggles. Back in the middle of May, your ruling planet, Venus, went retrograde for six weeks. And right as it corrected course at the end of June, the other love planet, Mars, slipped into Aries and your twelfth house of illusions, transitions and hidden agendas for an extended six-month stay (four times longer than usual).
From June 27, 2020, until this January 6, 2021, Mars slogged through this hazy part of your chart, making you unclear about where you stood, fanning the flames of insecurities and blurring the lines between fantasy and reality. While you may have had some wild and windswept romance, the roller-coaster ride of emotions was a lot to bear.
You can reclaim your power as the randy red planet blazes into YOUR sign, staying until March 3. Your confidence, charisma and mojo return with a vengeance. Shake off those sleepy or frumpy vibes and get ready to get back in the game! We understand the timing or a camera-ready debut is inconvenient with so much of the world being shut down now. But we trust that you’ll find safe ways to let the world see your swagger again.
Meanwhile, the other love planet, Venus (your galactic guardian), will be in Sagittarius and your sultry and intimate eighth house until January 8. This should bestow a sexy vibe, but with the galactic goddess in this internally focused sector, you might be feeling a bit insular, which will be easier for attached Bulls than those trotting solo.
But that intensity won’t last long. Once Venus soars into Capricorn and your adventurous, expansive ninth house from January 8 to February 1, nothing can bring you down. Your positive energy will be irresistible, and you’ll feel ready to try something new.
And the next day, January 9, Venus and Mars form a golden trine (120-degree angle of harmony). A long-distance connection could spark for single Bulls. Couples might experience that rarefied and glorious sensation of anything being possible. Do it safely, and it just might be!
Key Dates:
January 9: Venus-Mars trine
Bring on the lasting love! As affectionate Venus and passionate Mars harmonize in stable earth signs, you could have true romance with all the trimmings—sensuality and stability. Skip the “come here now go away” players and their mixed messages. A partner who makes you feel secure is suddenly the most attractive catch in town. Coupled? Mark a long-term relationship with a thoughtful gift to let your mate know how much you cherish them.

Busy Nights
Characters: Sehun x You Genre: Romance, Fluff, Family, Drabble Optional Music: `*•.♩ ♪ ♫ ♬♥ .¸.•*
Tonight, earthly pavements cool, dismissing the last of the dwelling summer in Seoul. Curtains drift airily like ocean waves, breathing in life back to the exhausted souls of a busy city. Yet, an element as invisible and shapeless as the wind, still fail to permeate the glass windows of the 22nd floor of Oh Enterprises, where the newly acquainted director diligently types away at his keyboard.
Stacks of files pile upon pile on his desk. A gentle knock echoes from his doorway.
“Come in,” he says without taking his eyes off the daunting black and white text on his computer screen.
Soft and dulcet, a twitch of a smile tickles your lips, though you try your best to suppress it. Cautiously, you step into the large office. Your heart pounds with trepidation, yet it’s soft and joyous, relieved and light. You stop in front of his desk and gently place the coffee mug down. From the close distance, the wrinkles along his forehead and tension along his glabella retracts your blissful expression to a worrisome one.
“Thanks, Cindy,” Sehun dismisses, without looking up.
The corner of your lip twitches, your arms cross your chest. Wordlessly, you stay standing there, awaiting his acknowledgement. Yes, your visit is meant to be a surprise, but you honestly thought you’d be caught by now. As the door swings close, it summons a calming breeze into the room. And finally, the young Director Oh tilts his head up. Lips mimic each other into an upward curve as eyes sparkle with recognition.
“Honey,” he gasps. The papers, he so studiously worked on for the passed week, falls freely from his palms as he pops up from his seat and dashes around the desk to greet you. Naturally, his hands take possession of yours. He brings them up to his lips and gives them a longing kiss. “Why are you here?” Sehun may be strict and merciless during work meetings but his tone is so soft and soothing with you. Before you can respond, he purses his lips and plants big kisses on your forehead, nose, and lips, causing you to lose your placid composure to a fit of giggles.
“Well,” you pretend to pout, “My husband left one side of the bed cold for the last three days…”
Sehun’s shoulders stoop and he lets out a sigh. Peering up, your small hands cup his beautiful face; you observe his disheveled form. Dark circles line under his eyes.
“Did you not get any rest at all?” you frown. Like a puppy, Sehun molds his larger palms over yours that caressed his face and snuggles in.
“Has my Little Princess been good?” his breathing is even and tranquil. In your presence, suddenly all the tension of his muscles seem to relax; an insomniac, like him, is seconds from falling asleep standing upright.
“She really misses her Appa,” you reply, running your fingers through Sehun’s hair.
The corners of his lips flip upside-down. “I miss my Baby Girl too…”
“But she’s been really good!” you try to lighten up, “Just misses Appa’s bedtime stories.”
Beautiful lashes part, his eyes twinkle like twilight gemstones as they admire your angelic features. Under the moonlight, your lips seem sweeter, the tip of your nose, pink and cherubic, your eyes, more alluring…He thinks he’s fallen in love all over again. Cupping your face, Sehun tilts your head and plants another loving kiss on your forehead.
“Heh…” you susurrate.
Naturally, his palm molds around your slightly protruding belly. “What about this one? Has he been good?” your husband muses. As you bring your palm over his, he realizes, all the work stresses from this passed week are actually so minuscule compared to the blessings the Heavens has granted him. His eyes grow a little glossy when he feels a kick against his hand.
Smiling into your words, you update, “Good. He’s been very good these last three days. The journey to the office though…”
“Hm?” Sehun blinks.
“I thought I was carrying a little ninja,” you joke and observe, “I think he’s excited to finally be with Appa.”
Lovingly, your husband supports your aching back and guides you to sit down on the office couch. Sehun kneels down on the floor in front of you and presses his ear against your stomach.
“Appa is here,” he whispers to his unborn son before gifting him a soft kiss, “Now be good and don’t give Omma too much grief."
Hearts melt into a mush. The affectionate father gazes up to you with that irresistible eye smile of his and just like Sehun, you believe you’re falling head over heels all over again. Cheeks dusts in cherry red.
You tug him to take the seat beside you and he obediently settles down. Automatically, Sehun throws an arm around your shoulder and pulls you in to rest against his chest. His breathing is calm and collected, but pulse is rapturous and quick.
“I miss you, Honey,” he admits. It’s not like Sehun’s never been away for work. In fact, during the early stages of your relationship, he sometimes had to travel abroad for a whole month. It’s just that now, with a growing family, the two of you cherished time together more than ever.
“Me too,” you answer and lean in for a quick peck on his cheek. His toothy grin and broadened shoulders betray his satisfaction.
Just then, your phone rings. The image on the screen only widens the smiles on both your faces.
“APPA!!!!” the toddler cheers into the video call.
“Hey!” Sehun takes the phone from your hands and smiles delightfully while the little troublemaker screeches in excitement. You fail to muffle back your laughter. “How’s my Baby Girl?”
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” she continues to shriek, jumping up and down so much that her grandmother can barely keep up with her.
Joyous chuckles evoke from Sehun’s lips. You can feel the vibrations from his abdomen.
“Be careful, Sweet Heart. Listen to Halmeoni!” he instructs. From the corner of your eyes, you catch Sehun stroking the screen with much longing. “She grew so much,” he says so seriously that it takes you a few moments to process the information before you burst into laughter. Sehun eyes you, almost offended by your reaction.
“Hubby, you’re exaggerating. It’s only been three days,” you giggle.
A deep sigh escapes his chest. With a frown he argues, “She grew.” Pointing at a lamp beside the little girl, he reasons, “She used to reach only up to there, now her little hair hits there!”
Slapping a hand against your forehead, you shake your head and chuckle. To the people of the office, Sehun may be a brave and ruthless boss, but to you, he is still a child at heart.
“My Little Baaaaa-buuu,” he coos, blowing his daughter several kisses through the screen.
“Appuupaa, when come home?” the young beauty asks, finally calm and in her grandmother’s lap. She sucks on her pacifier and innocently gazes into the screen awaiting her father’s answer.
It makes Sehun’s heart grow heavy. He turns to the pile of documents on his desk and sighs. Flattening your lips, you ease the phone from Sehun’s palm. “Appa works hard so he can buy you and your baby brother milk to drink and lots of toys to play with,” you coo.
Your daughter pouts and rejects the bottle of milk when her grandmother tries to feed her. “Appa,” she warbles.
“You want Appa?” you can hear your mother-in-law sweetly question as she tries to coax the toddler. “Appa will be home soon. But the Little Princess has to be good or Appa won’t bring her, her pretty glass slippers home…” The baby girl burst into tears.
From your peripheral vision, you catch Sehun’s eyes grow glossy. He sniffs back tears before you could mumble a regard.
“Drink your milkie and go to sleep, Sweet Heart,” you soothe. Turning to Sehun, you instruct, “You too, Director Oh. Get some sleep. Those dark circles are darker than a panda’s!”
With that, you start to get up to leave but your husband holds onto your hand.
“I can take the taxi home. Just make sure you get some rest, okay?” you reassure.
Still, he clings onto your hand. You raise your brow.
“Let’s go home together,” he makes the decision after pondering for a moment.
You gasps. The workaholic Oh Sehun is actually proposing to going home to rest when there are deadlines piled up like a mountain on his desk??? Your shocked expression must have betrayed your bewilderment. Sehun pinches your nose and chuckles. He tugs you over to his coat rack.
By the time the two of you arrive home, the little girl is already asleep in his grandmother’s arms.
“Se—” the older female happily greets but the loving father places a finger to his lip. Carefully, he eases the toddler from his mother’s lap into his arm. Just like that, with his little princess quietly snoring against his chest, he feels the heaviness in his chest vanish. Rocking back and forth, he hums sweet lullabies, kissing her chubby baby cheeks every so often. He feels so light, airy, and safe, like the gentle breeze of the last summer night.
With the baby securely in one arm, he extends his other arm out to you. Giggling, you skip over and weave your fingers through his. “Good night, Omma,” the two of you mouth to the beaming elderly woman. She nods and retreats into her room.
Nightly creatures ease the sleepy father from his duties with their own version of a serene hymn. Sehun places the baby onto the center of the bed, tucking her in with the stroke of her head and a kiss on the forehead. The two of you slip in under the covers, one on either side of the sleeping angel. Automatically, Sehun and your hands meet at the center, your arms building a barrier protectively around your daughter. Lashes begin to sway to the whistle of the wind outside. Guided by the rhythmic breeze, the curtains flow, creating breathtaking shadows into the bedroom.
“Goodnight, My Love,” your husband lightly squeezes your hand.
“Goodnight,” you slur as the warmth of your family’s company eases both of you to a sweet slumber.

Is Sacha Baron Cohen's New Show Bad for America? - PEER NEWS
New Post has been published on https://citizentruth.org/is-sacha-baron-cohens-new-show-bad-for-america/
Is Sacha Baron Cohen's New Show Bad for America?
Is Saron Baron Cohen’s new show bad for America? Maybe, maybe not. Maybe he’s just a comedian playing tricks on people for entertainment value, and we should just leave it at that. (Photo Credit: Joella Marino/Flickr)
He’s baaaaa-aaack!
Sacha Baron Cohen’s new show Who Is America? premiered this past Sunday on Showtime, the first episode in a seven-episode series that sees Baron Cohen return to the world of donning disguises and accents, and continuing to dupe people of influence into interviews and supporting positions publicly that undermine their credibility.
Ahead of its release, few details were released about who or what would appear on the show, save for Dick Cheney signing a “waterboarding kit” (which amounted to little more than a jug of water) in the promotional materials. Also, Sarah Palin copped to being played by Baron Cohen, although not without calling him “evil and sick” for tricking her, and Roy Moore threatening to sue Showtime over his chicanery. Clearly, the man has already struck a nerve.
At this writing, reviews are yet sparse, with only a handful having been aggregated by the likes of Metacritic. Having seen the premiere, I can say that Republicans are not the only targets of his comedy, although whether these figures are the jokes or whether Baron Cohen’s send-ups of American culture are tends to vary more as we move more leftward across the political spectrum. Bernie Sanders appears in a segment with Baron Cohen’s character Dr. Billy Wayne Ruddick, an Alex Jones-style conspiracy theorist, engaging in an absurd conversation where “Ruddick” engages in some warped math involving the one percent and 99 percent before Sanders confesses he has no idea what Ruddick is talking about.
As Rick Sherman, meanwhile, an ex-con who paints portraits with bodily fluids, Baron Cohen also meets with Christy Cones, a fine art consultant for Coast Gallery in Laguna Beach, who praises the bravery behind “Sherman’s” story and work. Since finding out about the ruse, Cones has evidently expressed a desire to meet face-to-face with Baron Cohen as “compensation for his underhanded tactics,” criticizing him for “pretending to be someone who suffered when he probably hasn’t suffered a moment in his life.” To what extent Cones may have “suffered” in her own life, who knows, but for someone who seemed a willing participant in the throes of the filming, certainly, she is not taking it all in stride after the fact.
Sacha Baron Cohen’s “art”—some might say I am being generous in calling it that—relies on deception and making people feel uncomfortable, both on screen and off it. It’s not a style for everyone, particularly those who feel victimized by their encounters with him and his portfolio of personas. In terms of perceptions of its quality, as noted, reviews are still being written or are in the waiting, but from my estimation, while entertaining, some segments play better than others. Baron Cohen, in his sit-down with June Page Thompson, a Trump delegate from South Carolina, and her husband and fellow Trump voter, Mark Thompson, as Dr. Nira Cain-N’Degeocello, a liberal Democrat who apologizes for his identity as a white cisgender male, tells accounts of raising his children that are obvious caricatures of liberalism taken to an extreme. The Thompsons don’t bite, though, or not to the extent that they angrily ask him to leave. It’s as if Baron Cohen is slow-playing them for a reaction he never gets, and the final product seems flat as a result.
The payoff proves larger for a segment in which Baron Cohen, as Col. Erran Morad, an Israeli anti-terrorism expert, convinces numerous gun rights advocates/Republican lawmakers to lend their support to an initiative that would arm children with guns as a means of curbing gun violence in schools. Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida does not take the bait, but others, including Rep. Dana Rohrabacher of California, Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina, and former U.S. Senator Trent Lott, appeared only too happy to endorse the measure. It’s both funny and terrifying, and the most redeeming value is that these men consented to appear as they did and reading from prepared materials. That is, they can’t claim this is “fake news” because the tape doesn’t lie.
Whether or not the show is subjectively “good” or “bad” as a comedic creation does not approach, however, the subject of whether or not Who Is America? is a show that real-world America needs in the current political climate. This topic is at the heart of a recent piece by Aja Romano, Internet culture reporter for Vox, who believes Baron Cohen’s “prankster provocations are a bad match for our current cultural climate.” Declaring them “exhausting” and “dangerous,” Romano attempts to quickly poke a hole in the liberal balloon of giddiness in delighting over the trickery and debasement of conservative figureheads:
On the one hand, all this may seem like the beginning of a glorious sublime parade of politicians owning themselves. But on the other hand, these politicians were tricked into appearing on the record as themselves, in a way that further perpetuates and entrenches not only the cultural ideological divide, but the idea among conservatives that “liberal” media, including entertainment media like Baron Cohen’s production, is a constant and perpetual trap to be distrusted at all costs.
Not only that, but the mileage Team Reality will get out of Baron Cohen’s performance-art antics won’t be nearly as potent as the validation Team Fake News will get out of claiming that Who Is America? represents a new low for liberals. And that’s because Team Reality was losing its hold over a single dominant reality paradigm long before Baron Cohen cycled back onto the scene.
As Romano would have it, it’s not so much that Sarah Palin et al. allowed themselves to be deceived, but that someone like Baron Cohen, who may or may not have an ax to grind, is doing the deceiving and providing cannon fodder for conservatives in the ongoing “culture war” coloring much of political interaction today. In other words, the right does not need any more material, not when they are especially good at creating it—out of thin air, if need be.
The problem, as Romano tells it, is that Baron Cohen is an “old comedy dog with old comedy tricks.” Back in 2006, when the Borat movie was first released, his comedy was still fresh and novel, and YouTube and the 24-hour news cycle had yet to really explode. Now, YouTube pranksters are numerous, outrage over news is Twitter’s currency, and it’s getting harder and harder to tell what is the genuine article and what is a meme designed to provoke hysteria. As such, in an era when real news seems like a parody of itself, exposing celebrities as Baron Cohen does loses its (shock) value.
Romano also cites Ted Koppel, who reportedly was also interviewed for the show. While dealing with his being duped better than others, Koppel expresses real concern about whether or not the whole exercise is productive, saying that “if there’s one thing we don’t need any more of in this particular era, it’s people posing as documentarians,” and that “to undermine whatever tiny little bit of confidence might be left by pulling a stunt like this” may make for good comedy, but at the same time, might not be terrific for the “overall atmosphere.” When so much focus is levied on the cultural “divide” and people adhering to their social media “bubbles,” as a seasoned journalist, Koppel knows full well what is he talking about when he refers to such an atmosphere.
In all, as Aja Romano sees it, Sacha Baron Cohen is not adding to the national dialog, “but…gleefully poking at it and watching everyone — politicians and onlookers alike — get upset.” To wit, I am not familiar with Romano or her work, though that doesn’t mean her commentary is to be dismissed. It’s not like she is the only one concerned about where Who Is America? fits into the whole modern political conversation, either.
While any number of celebrities and humorists have extolled the show’s virtues — presumably because they genuinely enjoy the show and not merely as a show of solidarity—not everyone is as keen on labeling it “essential” viewing. Indeed, Charles Bramesco of The Guardian, for one, finds much of the program’s content “inconsequential,” and Mike Hale of The New York Times prefaces his review of the first episode with the tagline “Should We Care?” When Romano speaks to a larger exhaustion at having to deal with real politics, her assessment of Baron Cohen’s comedy as exhausting might just hit the nail on the head. Certainly, not everyone affixed to the “liberal media” is so amused by his antics.
Then again, it could be that the program is but one amid a glut of comedic programming devoted to the state of political affairs in the United States. With so many competing voices, perhaps it’s natural that Baron Cohen, delivering material in a format not dissimilar from his previous efforts, loses his appeal in light of all the alternatives. In a sea of angry (or wryly amused, at least) voices, maybe he was bound to be unable to add anything to our discourse before he began.
In asking whether or not Sacha Baron Cohen’s new show is “bad” for America, it should be stressed that, while this question is phrased in terms of a yes-or-no binary, a fitting answer may be simply that it is neither bad nor good for America — it just is. Even if Who Is America? isn’t deliberately provoking outrage from detractors on the right, therefore — already, it’s evident that it is provoking outrage, so the remaining debate is whether Baron Cohen should shoulder the lion’s share of the blame or whether his victims should for allowing themselves to get so PO-ed in the first place—and assuming, as Ms. Romano insists, that the program doesn’t add to the discussion but only entertains, might this be a counterproductive creation in that it keeps us stuck in place when we should be making progress on bridging the divide? That is, if we’re not moving forward, are we essentially moving backward?
In considering the utility (or potential lack thereof) of Baron Cohen’s show, I’m reminded of the media’s attempts to grapple with The Daily Show‘s popularity in the Jon Stewart era. At its peak, about 12 percent of Americans cited The Daily Show as a place where they got their news, according to an online poll by Pew Research in 2015. That didn’t make it a leader in news, of course, but it put the show roughly equal to sources like USA Today and Huffington Post. Stewart, ever self-effacing, has always been quick to downplay the show’s influence, at least as much as he brought to it, and even the results of the poll suggest most respondents watched for the entertainment value during his tenure rather than for in-depth reporting, the latest headlines, or views and opinions.
Any inherent limitations as a news source aside, Stewart’s 16-year stewardship of Comedy Central’s flagship program was admired for his being tough on public figures when the occasion arose, notably Barack Obama and Tony Blair, the latter for his insistence on military solutions to a war on terror which was becoming increasingly apparent could not be fought purely on military terms, but also had to confront the underlying ideologies.
Accordingly, while interviews with various entertainers seemed comparatively lightweight, the show’s regular dissection of the motives of established political figures and aspiring candidates alike, as well as the agendas of authentic news media outlets, was seen as meritorious. As with Michelle Wolf’s takedown of the news media alongside the political elite in the most recent White House Correspondents’ Dinner (Wolf herself is a Daily Show alum), comedy was a tool for Stewart and his confrères to cut through the bullshit and hold the objects of their critical lenses accountable.
And while Stewart downplayed this aspect of the show, too, his measured, rational approach to confronting the issues of the day prompted favorable responses, not to mention this column in The New Yorker from Amy Davidson Sorkin entitled “Jon Stewart, We Need You in 2016.” In an era in which more traditional news sources are either losing customers (newspapers) or credibility (cable news), The Daily Show seemed less like an escape from reality and more like a bastion of sanity, capped off by its trademark closing “Your Moment of Zen.” By this token, antipathy from the FOX News wing of political belief systems was considered more of a badge of honor than a legitimate admonishment to be honored or feared, with the conservative network billing itself as “fair and balanced” guilty of more than its fair share of biased “reporting.”
Besides, it is not as if Jon Stewart hasn’t been critical of Democrats. In fact, since ending his run as host of The Daily Show, he arguably has reserved his harshest rebukes for figures outside the GOP fold, as if to express his dismay and disapproval with a party that has appeared, at times, to lack a unified message or to act in accordance with its stated values. In a notably tense exchange in a live podcast taping with David Axelrod for The Axe Files, Stewart blamed the Dems, in part, for the rise of a demagogue like Donald Trump by not doing their part to make government more effective and efficient for their constituents. There was still plenty of humor to be enjoyed throughout, although perhaps not as irreverently told as when he was host of The Daily Show — and not without plenty of harsh words for “man-baby” Trump.
This is where I’m a little unsure how to regard Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest act. The backlash from the Joe Arpaios, Roy Moores and Sarah Palins of the world is to be expected, and deceiving them, one might argue, is going after some low-hanging fruit, politically speaking. Then again, when has the provocateur suggested he is interested in anything else but entertainment? If the first episode of Who Is America? is any indication, everyone is fair game, including liberals, so allegations of bias might be deemed overstated.
What’s more, this irritation at Baron Cohen’s humor seems indicative of a larger trend of conservatives reacting negatively to jokes made at their expense, either because of their inability to take a joke, their frustration with having drastically fewer comedians at their disposal in alignment with their ideologies, or both. Liberal humor panning conservatives seems rooted in poking fun at people like Sean Hannity, Sarah Palin, and Donald Trump who carry themselves so seriously and yet merit none of the respect they crave.
When the script is flipped, meanwhile, stabs at comedy feel predicated on lazy stereotypes, if not real contempt for the objects of the joke-maker’s gaze and/or resentment of the perceived snobbery of the left. Or it could be that so many people who enjoy humor with their political news tend to be younger, and by association, more liberal. Or it could be that conservatism is about preserving the status quo, and is therefore fundamentally at odds with comedy, the milieu of the underdog. Or, as comedian Dean Obeidallah would aver, it’s that conservatives want desperately to be funny, but just aren’t very good at it. While humor indeed is subjective, statistically speaking and for what it’s worth, it’s hard to come up with many examples of successful right-leaning comedians. You can fill in the blanks herein as you see fit.
Is Who Is America? a great show, or even among Sacha Baron Cohen’s best work? Probably not. Is it good for America? Maybe, maybe not, though having already outed a number of GOP lawmakers for supporting the right of kindergartners to bear arms, it feels like Baron Cohen has already done fine work. But at the end of the day, perhaps it’s not Baron Cohen’s job to provide hard-hitting commentary, much as it wasn’t incumbent upon Jon Stewart to be a clarion call amid the static of the cable news cycle and the entropy of the social media sphere. Let the funny man play dress-up and prank people, calls for civility aside. There are those in Congress, in the Supreme Court, and the White House who are specifically tasked with upholding major American institutions, and are thereby more deserving of our scorn. No kidding.
